Social Lives

I used to go out a lot. I'd go to events, I'd go to bars, I'd go to parties and I'd go to other things. Then, I started riding a bike a lot more frequently. Since then, I've realized I don't make new friends who don't ride bikes. I try, but the problem comes when it comes to mutual activities. I like to drink beers with the best of them, but I find that I like to do so early, because I usually go to bed on the early side.

Last night for example, Johanna wanted to watch some throne game show. I find that show to be tedious. Instead of going to the bar or calling up my friends to do that. I decided to go on an extreme urban awesome ride trickfest* to blur lines between being 13 and 30.

I've kept my old friends from before I became a bike weirdo, although I almost lost one when I took him on a ride in Vermont a few weeks ago.

In praise of Connecticut government!

Connecticut government is much maligned. Rightly so, for the most part, but the General Assembly and Government got their shit together this fiscal year and the Rocky Hill-Glastonbury ferry is running full time. The other night when Dario and I rode it, we even saw Sen. Len Suzio (R) and it's not even his district! Read more!

Downtown

Hartford's downtown is not that big. I think it's like two square miles or something tiny. I worked in it for awhile and would ride my bike there everyday. Now that I go to school in the West End, I don't get down there as much. But, I had some business at City Hall yesterday, so I rode down. After I was done, I rode on to Constitution Plaza, down along the river in East Hartford, back over in Hartford, again to Constitution Plaza, to Spiritus and home. I worked downtown for a long time and never though much of it, but Dario has always told me that he likes to ride there. In my absence from the built environment, I think understand what he means. It's actually kinda pretty at night. The darkness doesn't really make it easy to take a picture when pedaling, though.

Bokeh

I've been listening to the new album by Bibio a lot lately. It's called "Mind Bokeh." I had never heard the word bokeh before and assumed it was made up. It's not. Johanna harnessed the awesome power of wikipedia to learn that bokeh is a Japanese word for the part of a photograph that's out of focus. The shallower the depth field, the more bokeh.

I don't have a great camera, probably because it's part of a cell phone. However, it's the only cell phone I've ever had that has a macro zoom. I'm not sure if it's a virtual macro zoom or if it's actually part of the lens. None the less, I can get good bokeh with it. As seen in the above picture of a Siamese carrot.

And for those reasons, Salem jumped off this wall.
