Making a folding bike look tougher

Honestly, I don't think there is a way to make 20"-wheeled bikes look tough. Wearing a suit while riding one is definitely not the way: when I do that in Bridgeport, children laugh at me. But the other week I went to pick up some spare wheels from a guy from craigslist, and carried them on the rack of my Raleigh Twenty. It looked like this:

Spare Wheels

I like it, because it almost does look tough somehow, probably because it makes the bike resemble a car with its spare tire stylishly displayed on the back, like this:

That is all.

The key is having the right bike. The IF Reach looks cool and has a racing pedigree (popular with triathletes). Ditto for the Xootr Swift. The BigFish has 16" wheels but people think it's very cool...

yes, children laugh at me too. the brompton is even wussier looking. bmx'ers don't know how to react to me, they don't welcome me as one of them, but they also recognize some similarity

@ Web: I have a Xootr Swift and trust me, it is not tough-looking. Cool, to be sure, but not tough. Even when I ride it with my brass knuckles on.
