We really should have a party.

I agree.

Or, a cakewalk.

what's a cakewalk?

According to Wikipedia: Cakewalk is a traditional African American form of music and dance which originated among slaves in the Southern United States.

There's also Debussy's "Golliwog's Cakewalk" from Children's Corner. I guess Golliwog was a character from a popular children's book at the time. There's also apparent debate over whether or not Golliwog is a racist figure or not. However, to read racism into the Debussy piece, in my opinion, is an unfair presentist assertion. I like the Debussy piece.

FYI, the way a cakewalk worked is that competitors would take turns engaging in fancy, whimsical, or acrobatic walks, and the one judged best would win a cake. Really. From this, we get two idiomatic expressions:

1. "It was a cakewalk," meaning something was easy, or no real competition was present, as in, "Sometimes when I compete in a cyclocross race, I'm lucky just to win some socks, but yesterday's race was a cakewalk: I was the far and away the strongest rider there."

2. "This ain't no cakewalk," meaning that the person to whom the statement is directed should take the present activity more seriously and quit messing around. I use this sometimes, usually when someone is slacking off, spacing out, or otherwise holding up the march of progress.
