Broken Shoes

How long are cycling shoes supposed to last? I used to have a pair of Cannondale shoes and they broke after two and a half seasons. The plate where the cleat mounted detached from the rest of the sole and would flex a lot and make it difficult last night. Up until last night, I had a pair of Answer shoes. I knew they were on the way out because they were developing holes, but they failed because the left shoe's sole detached from the upper. It was an interesting feeling. Those lasted three and a half seasons. May my knee over pedal spindle is all wrong.

I bought a pair of Carnac shoes. I hope these work ok. Maybe four and a half seasons?

Also, I narrowly avoided this cute guy and wowed him with my bike handling skills.

Usually my shoes have lasted 2-3 years. I had a pair of Shimano's that lasted until the upper tore clean across the toe cover, leaving my toes sticking out whenever I pulled up hard. I also had a pair of Sidis (which were supposed to last FOREVER!) pull completely free of the sole after 2 years; and as fortune would have it, in the warmup for a race. Athletic tape saved the day, but I bought new shoes anyways.

I was considering Sidis, but Salem's Carnac's seem to do pretty well.

Carnacs?

Caracas?

I had some Sidi genius 3's that lasted ~3 yrs, but I was higher mileage / less abusive way back then.

Lake makes some solid dogs too.

I heard those lake shoes are all wet.

I've heard good things about specialized.

Check back in six years on the beat bike blog for another shoe update when I buy specialized.

Perhaps Sidi, Lake, Shimano, and Cognac would donate some of their most durable shoes to the Beat Bike Blog testing team so we can gin up some favorable and influential product reviews.

Apparently, no one liked my reviews because I haven't received anything since my soda review like two years ago.

Mine lasted about 2 years. But it all depends on how frequent and how rough you use them. My sister doesn't run that much and she used her pair for 6 years before they finally lost one of them!
