It's the little things

We here at the Beat Bike Blog are always singing the praises of bike-riding, and one of the things we like to point out is that when you travel at a more stately pace (very stately, in my case), you take notice of more of life's little details. Case in point, the sign pictured below, which I espied on Newton Street, just off Capitol, on my way back to the office from having lunch with a friend downtown. If I knew any ladies, I would pass this along to them, but all I know is tramps.

Lady roommate wanted

  1. Kevin and I saw that sign on our bike ride yesterday morning. Our first thought was....a man wrote that, cause women don't really refer to ourselves as "lady" in reference to roommate searches.

    I could be wrong.

  2. I think you are discounting the possibility that the sign was crafted by someone who does not speak English as a first language or who comes from a part of the anglophone world where the mores of "lady/woman" usage are different. It's also possible that "lady" was deliberately chosen to indicate that the roommate-seeker desires a sublessee possessed of charm, grace, and good breeding.

  3. Lady, I'm your knight in shining armour
    And I love you
You've made me what I am
    And I am yours
My love, there's so many ways
I want to say I love you
Let me hold you in my arms
    Forever more
You have gone and made me such a fool
I'm so lost in your love
    And all we belong together
Won't you believe in my song
Lady, for so many years I'd thought
    I'd never find you
You have come into my life and made me whole
Forever let me wake to see you
    Each and every morning
Let me hear you whisper softly in my ears
In my eyes I see no one else but you
There's no other love like our love
    And yes, oh yes
I'll always want you need me
I've waited for you for so long
Lady your love is the only love I need
And beside me is where I want you to be
Because my love there is something I want you to know
You're the love of my life
    You're my lady

  4. It's hard for me to read "lady" in this context without thinking of "the ladybusiness".
